Julius Caesar Character Analysis - 2014 Words

Julius Caesar is a play about the death of Julius Caesar and how his death affects the Roman Empire. The play was written in 1599 by William Shakespeare. Even though the play is about Julius Caesar, the main character isn’t Julius Caesar, but really is Brutus. Brutus deals with internal conflict during the play because at first he doesn’t want to cause any harm to his emperor but Cassius convinces him that the other senators and he should do something about Caesar. Cassius is another senator for the Roman Empire who does not like Caesar, and was the one who first brought up the idea of harming Caesar. In William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, the character of Brutus, who loves country over friendship, is manipulated to kill his friend†¦show more content†¦Cassius also tries to convince Brutus to assassinate Antony, but fails. Mark Antony is a General for the Roman Empire. Antony fights against Cassius and Brutus and defeats them in Philippi. One of Anton y’s biggest scenes is when he convinces Brutus to let him speak at Caesar’s funeral and in his speech he excites the citizens into forming a rebellion. The play opens with two tribunes, people who protect the rights of citizens, on a street talking to a couple of workmen. The tribunes ask them why they are not working. One of the workmen responds why he is there, and the other man responds with jokes and puns. After the man responds with jokes he says that they are there to watch Caesar celebrate his victory over Pompey. During the celebration, a Roman citizen yells form the crowd, â€Å" beware the ides of March.† Julius Caesar hears this but ignores the call from the citizen. This call from the citizen foreshadows events that occur later on in the play. After this event happens, Cassius talks to Brutus about Caesar and tries to manipulate Brutus. Cassius talks about how Caesar has too much power and that him being the dictator of Rome is wrong. He also talks h ow Caesar is like one of them’, he is human with human weaknesses and flaws. This talk between Brutus and Cassius convinces Brutus to do something, but he is not sure what to do. My life started with my long and hard birth on July 14, 1993. I came into the world with a large scream and was immediately placed into some sort of category. The doctors and nurses took a quick look at me, and pronounced me as a girl. This social label of being a girl was now my gender, which is something I had no say in. Every since that very moment in time where my parents were told I was a girl, I have been treated according to my gender. This meant that my parents automatically dressed me in pink, bought me dollhouses and kitchen sets and threw me Barbie themed birthday parties. Since I was surrounded my whole entire life by these things, it was almost like second nature to think and act the way that I did and still do. My†¦show more content†¦I became intrigued and wanted to play with his toys because they became so much more interesting then mine. When my grandmother saw that I was playing with trucks and enjoying it, she quickly came over and grabbed them out of my h ands, giving them back to the little boy I had taken them from. She then explained to me that trucks were for boys not girls, and I should stick to using my pink shovel and bucket set to make nice sandcastles. I didn’t understand at that point what the big issue was, it was just toys that were fun to play with, but I agreed with my grandmother because I didn’t want to get into trouble and from then on stuck to focusing on making sandcastles. I quickly forgot about the trucks, and never again did I think to play with anything remotely like that. Little did I know it, but that was one of the first examples of gender roles that I had been exposed too. Growing up, my label of a female has given me both advantages and disadvantages.
